Mr. Bluegill

Fresh water permit? If your a flyrod fisher you have to love these guys. Fun, easy and in most cases they are in your backyard. Bluegill have to be one of the scrappiest fish I know of and they will fight you till the bitter end. I got to spend a few hours catching these guys this past weekend and I had a blast. When they are biting you barely have enough time to get the fly in the water before your pulling it out again. So the next time you pass that small creek or pond stop and pay your respect to Mr. Bluegill.

  2. Great pics - bluegill are under appreciated. When I teach someone how to fly fish, I like to start with bluegills in the local pond.

    Look forward to seeing more.

  4. Hey, Dusty, just came across your blog and started following it. Amen, to this post on loving Bluegill. My favorite fish to catch on a fly rod. Also, just wanted to encourage you to keep writing posts and sharing with us other Warm Water fly fishers. I have been around the blogging scene for several years and have made some good friends and have learned a lot by sharing with others.
